Gender Affirming Closet

With our move to our new home at Stonewall House, the LGBTQ Center is currently working to organize our Gender Affirming Closet or "GAC," formerly known as the Queer Closet Initiative. This new program expands on our previous clothing offerings.

Coordinator Open Office Hours

Monday & Tuesday, 5:00 - 7:00 p.m.

Thursday, 3:00 - 5:00 p.m.

Our closet is located on the second floor of Stonewall House in room 220, also known as the Rose Room, and offers two distinct physical closets.

Our Community Closet (Right Side) remains open anytime the center is open. This closet hosts a variety of styles ranging from masculine to feminine to in-between & beyond. Brown University community members are welcome to try on and keep items from this side at no cost. This collection features everyday clothing, business attire, shoes, accessories, and make-up.

Our Gender Affirming Baselayer (GAB) & Drag closet is on the left side. This area is available during the coordinator's open office hours, by appointment, or by asking a staff member. This collection features:

  • New GC2B binders in racerback and standard back styles for sizing and fit (hoping soon to have bras for fitting)
  • Sewing Machines and limited hand-sewing supplies
  • Drag Customs and accessories to borrow and try on
  • Make-up, hair styling products, disposable applicators used for make-up demonstrations and tutorials
  • TransTape, remover oil, and instructional material

Want to Donate? Please reach out. We accept clean, lightly loved or new clothing, accessories, shoes, drag-wear, and unused make-up. The following items are in high demand:

  • Business Attire
  • Larger Sized clothing
  • Unused make-up
  • New and unused base layers (bras, boxers, tank tops, etc.)
  • Large feminine style shoes (women size 11 or larger)
  • Smaller masculine style shoes (men size 6 or smaller)

The Closet Coordinator, with the help of our professional staff, oversees this space and programming. The Closet Coordinator is a Brown student who is responsible for keeping the space organized and coordinating programming related to gender expression. They offer one-on-one consultations by appointment or during the coordinator’s open office hours
